I’m testing a couple of different chassis while breaking in the cabinet. at least a few weeks to months I guess. took some pics with priceton 5D2 and 5B3 deluxe to see the size
i designed those two works for yoffy who work really hard on music
here is his soundcloud profile link
got this brazilian strat neck a couple of years ago. it has refinished before. unfortunately, it’s urethan finish on it. it still ages well though.
trussrod nut and the decal have replaced at 90’s by the owner before me. and I don’t think this Mechanicland neck came with the decal. the decal on the head is definitely a aftermarket product. and it looks funny a bit
everything else is great with this beautiful with brazilian fretboard. and, sounds stunning along with this light ash (not swamp ash) body
I keep checking out the the leather handles since I had some trouble with fender reissue.
the humped handle in the picture came from this company, Industrial Amps it looks very close to the original ones on fender tweed amps. but, the original seemed to have 3 layers.
[udpate] it was 30 something dollars when I found it. and it’s now almost $50.
377V with Bendix 6106 5y3wgt which has purchased as NOS and less than 1 year old
366V with Hytron 5y3wgt which is many many years old
369V with GE 5y3gt less than 1 year old
393V with GE 5v4g which I purchased as NOS and less than 1 year old
396V with RCA 5v4g as NOS and less than 1 year old
370V with another Bendix I have purchased as slightly used condition a couple of months ago
btw, I recently scored this Bendix for $25 off ebay. but it just killed my 5F1’s fuse and the B+ is only 266V with 5D3. not every single Bendix lasts like forever
and, figured out why I had 60hz hum with this 5v4g. this one shows only 307v. I’m going to update the 5v4g thread
a member here recommended me 5751 for tweed deluxe v1 socket. and I’m impressed with this setup. I grabbed this off ebay for $32 even the kind seller sent me an extra GE 5751.
I’d say it’s way better than stock 12ay7 and 12at7 on v1.
and 5751 on 5F1 reduces the output volume a bit. but still a good sounding tube
did a simple job for a friend. he has some extra 50’s Jensen speakers and wanted to use them with this GT40 amp.
he told me GT40 has mono and stereo output mode. so, we decided to leave one of the 6.5″ speakers as it was. then put a long thread 1/4 jack on the other output.
the only place I found for the internal/external switch was the inside of the bass reflex vent on the back. the back panel itself is too thick to attach the switch.
I met this little guy again this morning. and gave it RCA Command 5751 as a present. I’ve tried more than a few 12ax7 tubes with this Champ for a while. and love the sound with this 5751. and, one 6v6gt from Valvo factory in Frankfurt is coming to me for this Champ.
the 3rf filter cap is Sprague which replaced the big 8uf 500V Astron minimite last winter. it still has the 2 prong power cord even with the death cap. this 57-year-old Champ is beautiful and sounds great of course. but didn’t sing as much as my ’59 Champ till this morning. now it does sing like a magic.
