- JRC4558D가 메인이고 RC4558P가 서브. 그 외에도 14만번대 시리얼에 TL4558P, NEC C4558C 등이 간간히 있습니다
- RC4558P도 AC, ATJ, AED, AEB 등등 조금씩 폰트 차이가 있습니다
- JRC4558D 이후에 쓰여진 4자리 숫자가 시리얼넘버와 대략적인 선형상관관계가 있습니다. 물론 통계를 돌려본건 아니죠.
- 전면의 R로고가 사라지고, knob scale이 찍히는 것은 대략 15만번대 중반부터. 물론 예외는 있습니다. 최근에 리이슈된 808의 껍데기는 후기 것과 같습니다. 즉, 전면 사진 한장 달랑있는데 스케일없고 R로고 있는 808은 오리지날일 가능성이 더 높다는 것.

My interest in fuzz pedal came from JMI Tone Bender III reissue which belongs to a friend. this pedal has 3 of OC75 glass tube transistors.
And, unfortunately, My Sola Sound Bum Fuzz came with 3 of NPN transistors while OC75 is PNP type. then found this web page with germanium and silicone transistor lists

I’m going to try OC139. simply beccause, OC139 is cheaper than OC140 on ebay. and I’m wondering how Transition Frequency differences work with Fuzz. I’ll update in a few weeks
I see two of ACY41 germanium transistors on the board.
Grabbed this off ebay for a great price. two hundred something in USD. it sounds great and quite different than my Bum fuzz and old Sola Sound fuzz pedal a friend has.
but, it has an issue. it rattles on high level. I’m sending back this back to British Pedal Company.

친구가 문득 빌려준 808이 문제였는데
듣도보도못한 엄청난 배음 + 달콤한 중음대가 쏟아졌죠..
그리고 이게 여타 다른 페달에서 느껴보지 못했던 정말 음악적인 소리였습니다.
사실 유튜브에 샘플은 많이 있지만, 대부분은 모든 노브를 12시로 두고 이리 돌려보며 소리를 들려줍니다. 하지만, 대부분의 드라이브/디스토션 페달들은 볼륨은 최대로 하고, 게인 노브를 적당히 조절해야 페달의 성격을 알 수 있죠. 즉… 시중에 떠도는 샘플 중에 정확한건 별로 없고 직접 꽂아 써봐야 잘 알 수 있습니다. 당연한거지만…
한참을 가지고 놀았는데, 손과 귀에 착착 감깁니다.
아 도저히 안되겠다… 싶어졌습니다. 아아
가지고 있던 악기들을 정리하면서 우연히 보던 리버브에서 자그마치 104390 시리얼을 보게 되는데…
아날로그맨 웹에서도 그보다 빠른 시리얼은 단 하나, 그조차 정확한 정보는 없는 속된말로 극극초기 물건이더군요.
정신차려보니 연구실에 물건 도착. 텔리 하나 장만하겠다고 이리저리 정리한 돈은 순식간에 사라졌습니다.
이후에 시간날 때마다 매물 정보들을 정리해봤습니다.
친구의 808은 뒷판 고무가 없는데, 대략 감안해보면… 81년산, 대략 15만번대 후반에서 16만번대 초반 시리얼을 예상할 수 있습니다.
그래서 초기 808 vs 후기 808 비교는 다음 기회에..
아직 몇가지 궁금함이 남아있습니다.
뮬의 도시전설대로 JRC4558P보다 RC4558P 들어간 808이 정말 더 좋을까?
초기 808이 더 좋을까? 후기 808이 더 완성도가 높을까?
후기 808에서 TS9으로 이어지는 시기에 그 스윗한 중음대가 계승되었을까?
This volume boost pedal has optical resistor instead of potentiometer. the pot on the side is for boost not the volume control.
the black taps are screening the light to the optical sensor. you can see how it works from this video.
I tried germanium diodes on my Bum fuzz. and, noticed they reduces the volume dramatically. the maximum volume of the pedal was almost identical to guitar’s output volume. the pedal worked great with almost zero noise.
I came back to the silicon diodes. and, found out the reason why germanium diode clipper’s output level was that low.
The voltage drop of Germanium diodes is 0.35V while silicon’s is over 0.5V. the answer was simple and helpful.
